Jaffna University Chancellor and Lifetime Professor Padmanathan said in 5 years, the Northern Province will be asked whether Tamils are the majority in the province. Similar to how the University of Jaffna has become more diverse than the Faculty of Arts, the Northern Province will also change.
He said it during a press conference held today at a private hotel in Jaffna. In addition, Ethnic issues in Sri Lanka have a long history. The ethnic problem in Sri Lanka was raised day by day because the Tamil leaders did not act or do anything at the right time.
The Eastern Province is home to three communities, especially the Muslim community and the Tamil community. A large number of Tamils in Trincomalee became Muslims.
Therefore, all parties and leaders should support the implementation of provincial council powers in an appropriate manner.
He further stated that In 5 years, the state of saying that the Northern Province is a home land of Tamils will change, just like how the University of Jaffna, apart from the Faculty of Arts, has become majority-owned.
