The Sri Lankan Army intimidated journalists

Today, the military threatened a journalist who went to gather news on prayers at a temple in the Palali Vasavilan area of Jaffna, which is under military occupation.

Public prayers were temporarily allowed in the temples located inside the military base of the High Security Zone in Palali Vasavilan, Jaffna.

Because of this, the public gathered this morning at eight in front of the Vasavilan army headquarters to visit the temples that are currently under the control of the armed forces. When journalists Prabhakaran Dilakshan, Sundarampillai Rajeskaran, and Chinnaiya Yogeswaran went to gather news, the army threatened and confiscated their phones to delete videos.

Journalists who captured footage of the liberated area’s streets and assembly of public were intimidated.

It is important to point out that journalists in the north and east provinces of Sri Lanka are continuously facing challenges.
